Justin - How come when either my nephew or myself write to Sprint to ask about changing to them, we NEVER get any reply whatever? Not a form letter, not a 'we don't need your steenkin beesness', nothing? Has happened at least four times.

I think it is obvious - ATT does not care about the customers, that has been my experience for years. They send the same old form letter to everyone, they do NOT read your question or comment, just toss you a generic reply and tell you to STFU and go away, oh, and be sure to pay your bill on time. Sprint doesn't even REPLY to your inquires. And BTW, that utter lack of customer service is NOT limited to smart phone users/// it extends to every customer who tries to correct a problem.

AT&T is the devil. I went to Sprint from AT&T, and haven't looked back. Justin is right on the money, they all nickle and dime you, but Sprint at least doesn't (yet anyway) practice shady techniques like data throttling. True that my download speeds only average 1-2mbps, but honestly I use my phone mostly on wifi anyway. Not to mention that investing in Sprint now would be just as much an investment in the future as AT&T as they are both rolling out LTE networks over the next couple of years. You think AT&T throttling is bad now? What happens when you're data speeds double? LTE is around the corner folks, for all cell phone carriers, and Sprint has a plan they are working on to get this established and beef up their 3g network. I'm not a Sprint employee, I've simply had phones on all the big 3. Sprint is the least shady/greedy of the bunch (for now) in my experience. FYI, the main reason I left AT&T and Verizon? Unlimited texting should not cost $20-30 month, do some research, this is the biggest ripoff in the cell phone industry...why is no one complaining about that? $20-30 a month to send miniscule amounts of data that doesn't cost AT&T a penny.

Already contacted lawyers, due to an arbitration clause in the terms of use contract there is no recourse for AT&T subscribers other than arbitration. Thanks to a very, uh, conservative, supreme court, that upheld a lower ruling on the validity of arbitration clauses in terms of use contracts, we have no recourse except to arbitrate and walk away.... B.S. Write your congressman....

The one thing I'm wondering in all this is are they throttling more than 5% of their users - granted we're more tech savvy and thus vocal than those using their phone really just for e-mail. I'm personally upset I can't watch Netflix movies, but my data consumption really hadn't changed that radically - yet per AT & T's charts it had. If anything I think the case to be made is there's a lack of transparency - its hard to know if you are really in the 5% and how this is managed - i.e.: if a user enters the 5%, is one released from the group - - likely not. It's an arbitrary numbers allegedly based on billing cycle and geographic location. I think AT&T's lack of silence proves a point - if they talk about this problem publicly and flaws are exposed in their calculation then perhaps we have a valid FTC complaint. I wouldn't put it past them - thanks John for probing them (and also getting the same answer I got: we invite you to switch to our tiered data plans). If history repeats itself I should be off contact in time for iPhone 5 and jumping to Sprint, provided they can assure me Netflix will run well for the most part (I'll be looking very hard in the fine print of that contract regarding the consistency of data speeds). It's a shame, I've been an iPhone user since the day it launched in 2007 - and lately my iPhone 4 has been getting data speeds comparable to Edge on the first iPhone.
